European Championship – Day 2

One race was completed for all groups today, but it was not as simple as it sounds. The local eastern thermal wind filled in for the time of the 10 am start at 7 knots and it began to fade away around noon which is typical behaviour. This kind of wind blows in the morning and usually dies in the afternoon on a fair summer day.

The Race Committe set the course close to the South shore, where the pressure is better and lasting longer as well. The shore side was favoured as usual in these conditions.

All but the Girls blue group managed to complete the course of race 3, when the wind dropped and shifted 90 degrees. Therefore the Race Committee decided to abandone all races in progress (Boys already started race 4) despite the fact that part of the Girls blue group in race 3 already finished. The fleet has been sent to shore under postponement.

Finally at 4 pm the wind picked up around 5 knots and PRO Béci Erdélyi chose to go out and complete race 3 for the Girls blue group while the others stayed ashore. This proved to be a wise decision, the wind cooperated nicely and all 5 groups have 3 races at the end of the day.

Overnight leaders TEO Ryan Yee Kang (SIN) and Mara TURIN (SLO) managed to stay on top both with second place finishes. Race winners today were Aina COLOM from Spain and Rok VERDERBER from Slovenia.
