Good preparation for next year's IODA European Championship

As known, the 2013 IODA ECH will be hosted by the Hungarian Optimist Association and Spartacus Sailing club at Lake Balaton, Balatonföldvár, Hungary. For a perfect preparation the organizers are offering several opportunities to get familiar with the local conditions. Lake Balaton is known as a light wind water but several times the weather conditions are much more colorful as it was on the Choco Cup, too.

99 Optimists from 9 countries (CZE, GBR, DEN, HUN, ISR, MLT, ROM, SRB, SLO) were present at the startline of the 3rd Choco Cup which became a real international event. A 4-day clinic was held before the event led by the Hungarian National Team Coach, Péter Török. The variable conditions helped to collect a broad spectrum of experiences.

8 races were completed at the 3-day-long regatta, in 5 to 22 knots of wind, sometimes in choppy water. Local sailor Zsombor Gyapjas took the overall win, but the English team dominated the regatta, with six sailors between the top ten.

The Choco Cup was a perfect test for the European Championship next year. Spartacus Sailing Club plan to organize several clinics in the Spring time 2013 and the 4th Choco Cup will be held before the ECH. The schedule of the events will be available on the www.optieuro2013.com website.

See you in 2013 at Lake Balaton!
